That s why the Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust is so keen to support the National Burn Centre. Any one us could require the unit s services at some point, chairman Sir Peter Leitch says. Some of the cases referred there now are absolutely heartbreaking and it s hum- bling to see how the staff and their patients cope in such extraordinary circumstances. . We, through this campaign, can help by funding some much needed equipment to assist surgeons with their reconstructive and plastic surgery. I challenge the people of Auckland to join us in our efforts. It s very easy to bury your head in the sand and say it doesn t affect me. But the simple truth is it one day could. The Mad Butcher and Sub- urban Newspapers Com- munity Trust was formed in 1998 and has so far raised over $1.5 million for various causes. Beneficiaries have included Plunket, the North Shore Hospital Foundation, Cure Kids, Hospice, Diabetes NZ, the Cancer Foundation, the Starship children s hospital, Look Good Feel Better, the Meningitis Trust, Kidz First Children s Hospital, CanTeen and Macular Degeneration. The trust has also helped numerous schools with liter- acy and drug education initiatives. The big difference is that every cent goes to the causes, deputy chairman and Suburban Newspapers general manager David Penny says. There are no administration staff and trustees all volunteer. They even have to pay for their own tickets to the functions. The Nor-west News is among the 16 Suburban Newspapers titles circulating between Papakura and Kai- kohe. We are very much a part of the trust and this is a fan- tastic opportunity to lend our support to something of ben- efit to our community, editor Rani Timoti says. The Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust will hold a corporate charity dinner at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on December 3. Guest speaker Prime Minister John Key will be interviewed on stage by broadcaster Paul Holmes during a night of glitz and glamour designed to raise funds for the National Burn Centre. The evening starts at 7.30pm and will include live and silent auctions as well as music from Black Salt. Tickets cost $1850 + GST foratableof10or$185+ GST per person.
