The 1939 Sunshine building, formerly last used by Waitoki School as a library, needs funds to move it on to the res- erve by Helensville Museum. Because there are many power lines between Waitoki and Helensville the roof of the building will need to be lowered. Eurovision Removals, along with pilot vehicles, have offered to move the facility free of charge. Helensville and Dis- trict Museum president John Smith says the shift will cost $15,000, which includes the removal and replace- ment of power and phone lines. The companies in- volved have offered to do the shift for half price. This also includes pro- viding footings and con- crete for the building, along with architect and council fees. Mr Smith is hoping for fundraising support from the community, especially with many local people who went to school in it and those who don t want it destroyed or lost to the district. We d like a school building on our ground as it s an original. If we don t take some- thing like this we won t be offered another one, Mr Smith says. The Sunshine building was used in its heyday as a school classroom and storeroom. Call John on (09) 420-8428 or 027-357- 4921 or the school office on (09) 420-5244.
