Teachers get in the swim Learning how to develop swim- ming and survival skills to students at Kaukapakapa School is a priority when students return next year. Staff have already had their first in-service programme with the Kiwi Swim Safe instructors and are looking forward to another session early next term. The school pool is a popular community facility and students are getting more time to swim as the weather heats up. We are very enthusiastic about this new initiative and how it integrates with the new curriculum,'' teacher Caroline Armstrong says. State Kiwi Swim Safe is a comprehensive programme launched by Swimming New Zealand into primary and inter- mediate schools. It has been developed to give school teachers the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver a learn to swim, water and beach safety programme reflecting the aquatic requirements of the curriculum.
