IT'S YOUR FUTURE Blazing trails at Riverhead Pedal power: Mountain biking action is in full spin for this weekend's Trailfest Riverhead. Forest flurry: Runners have dry and quick winding tracks to negotiate in Riverhead Forest. By RANI TIMOTI An even busier weekend is expected to thrive in Riverhead Forest. More than 500 people will run, walk and moun- tain bike for Trailfest Riverhead. The event will also serve as a warm-up for teams from Kaukapakapa, Massey, Greenhithe and West Harbour taking on the 100km Oxfam trailwal- ker in April. Run by Total Sport, competitors of all levels will be doing 10km, 22km and 32km moun- tain biking on February 5 and 10km, 21km and 32km walk or run on February 6. Following last year's trial of the trailfest model in Stillwater, this year Riverhead is included in the season's calendar. The addition of three mountain bike events -- 10km, 22km and 32km -- have been designed by Total Sport's guru JP Tobin, which will sure to please the staunch nor- west riders. Mountain bikers will also find it perfect train- ing for The DUAL or T42 later this summer. The trail running com- munity will experience dry and quick conditions as opposed to its grub- biest during Total Sport's XTERRA series. View: www.totalsport. co.nz for more infor- mation.
