Up to 90 aircraft of all types from as far away as Tauranga arrive for the annual Parakai Fly- in from 10.30am. The air will be full of a variety of aircraft from old warbirds to new gyrocopters. Several Tiger Moths are due at the Parakai Airfield in Green Rd from mid to late morn- ing, accompanied by a 5/8th scale Hawker Fury biplane. A new addition to the warbirds aircraft is a T51 Mustang, at a public flying display for the first time at Parakai. Also on display will be a sleek and fast French- designed microlight flown by the airfield's owner, Harvey Lockie. The Gyrate team from Tauranga plan to fly up with several gyrocopters, some of which will be used for flying demon- strations. Other levels of flight experience will be avail- able, from a simple ride around the airfield cir- cuit to commercial trips with Flight Hauraki. Those more daring can try tandem parachute jumps with Parakai Blueskies Skydiving. Entry to the event is free, and free off-street parking is available. There will be onsite food caterers, and visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic lunch. Dogs are not permitted on the airfield property.
