Celebrating talent An annual event which acknowledges the aca- demic, cultural, sport and community success of Kaipara College students with Maori descent is being held on October 4. Whakamana Taiohi Maori honours the students in style sur- rounded by whanau and friends at Helensville Primary Hall from 5.30pm. Volunteers needed The Helensville Women and Family Centre is looking for volunteers to prepare for the bargain day, annual Christmas drive, Christmas parade and Children s Day Out in March. Pink bikers ready to ride Pink revellers: The annual Pink Ribbon Ride will raise money for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. Bikers are being called on to raise money for the New Zea- land Breast Cancer Foundation. The eighth annual Pink Rib- bon Ride, organised by the Auckland branch of the Women s International Motor- cycle Association, is on October 2. The first event was held in 2004 and raised $1300 for the foundation and had 130 bikes participating. Last year 540 bikes attended and more than $18,000 was raised. Since the inaugural event more than $57,000 has been col- lected for the foundation. The ride starts at the AMI Netball Centre in St Johns and will end at the Western Springs Stadium where there will be a sausage sizzle, coffee and cold drinks. Prizes are up for grabs and there will be a raffle. The foundation s pink bus will be on hand for those who don t ride but want to join in. Organisers need people who are keen to help out on the day selling badges and raffle tickets and being a pedestrian crossing marshal. The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation's annual street appeal is on October 14 with volunteers needed. More than 2700 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in New Zealand every year. What you need to know about the Pink Ribbon Ride The Pink Ribbon Ride is on October 2 It begins at the AMI Netball Centre, 7 Allison Ferguson Drive, St Johns and opens at 9am The ride will depart at 10.30am and ride through St Heliers, Tamaki Drive, Quay St, Hobson St, Karangahape Rd It ends in the carpark at Western Springs Stadium Motorcyclists, scooter riders, trikes, men and women are invited Badges $10, t-shirts $20, raffle tickets $5, barbecue and drinks $2. Raising funds Fundraisers for the New Zea- land Breast Cancer Foundation will be supported by nor-west residents in October: Zumba event at Kumeu Indoor Sports Centre on Octo- ber 29.
