Helping make a differ- ence against the scourge of methamphetamine has earned accolades for Waimauku Lions. The service group supported and funded a DVD about the warnings of the P drug from a for- mer west Auckland addict who presented her life-changing story. The DVD will be viewed by people work- ing with youth. Members received the Bernie Ash Youth Activi- ties Award at a Lions convention in Hender- son. They were also pres- ented with a certificate of appreciation from sergeant Deane Mc- Entee, the youth edu- cation services head sergeant of Auckland City Blue Light, an agency designed to help young people make sen- sible choices. LIVESTOCK REPORT The cattle market on December 5 at the Kumeu sale continued strong trends, with steers selling very well to $1450 and bulls $1740. It seems everyone has grass so we should see the market remain strong for some time. Cattle: Best steers $1040 to $1450, other 18-month-old steers $495 to $780, autumn-born weaner steers $405 to $450, best heifers $905, autumn weaner heifers $380 to $420, medium yearling heifers $660, bulls $505 to $1740, boner cows $655 to $742. Sheep: Fat lambs $86 to $130, spring lambs $45. There were fewer older cattle on offer at the Kumeu sale on November 28. However, a good yarding of young stock sold pretty well with medium yearling steers selling to $600 and heifers $677. A nice line of weaner calves sold very well with keen bidding on them, with steers to $460 and heifers $450. Cattle: Medium yearling steers $565 to $600, good weaner steers $430 to $460, small steers $320 to $380, best yearling white-face heifers $677, good weaner heifers $430 to $450, bulls $950, boner cows $485. Sheep: Fat lambs $87 to $130.
