A year after moving their wool buying operation to Kumeu, the Great New Zealand Wool Company continues to serve lifestyle block owners, small farmers and farmer suppliers in the local area and beyond. Murray Lynch, who took over the Norwest area wool buying services from Bruce Fraser last December, continues to be impressed by the com- munity's response. Every day we're open we have people coming in with wool and compli- menting us on our pres- ence in the area,'' he says. It's fantastic when you make a big change after taking over an existing business and you know you're getting overwhelming support.'' The rise in wool prices has helped. Murray has been able to add a bit more value to the aver- age clip over the past few months as the increase in demand for crossbred wool has put demand pressure on all wool, including the mixed lines that Murray makes up as parcels for sale. Murray has worked closely over the years with his exporter customers to ensure he puts together parcels that are marketable overseas and continue to sell when the market has low demand periods. All grades of wool are bought and your wool is weighed when you arrive so you can be sure you are paid for the right amount. No lot is too small. So if you have shorn those sheep on your lifestyle block, and you're wondering what to do with the wool, bring it to the Great New Zealand Wool Company depot in Kumeu. Murray has enlisted the services of the pre- vious owner, Bruce Fraser, to help out dur- ing the busier months. Bruce is enjoying the opportunity to see long time suppliers without the pressure associated with business ownership. The Great New Zea- land Wool Company depot is down the drive next to Maddren Homes at 104 Main Highway in Kumeu. Currently they are open Mondays and Fridays 10am-3pm and Saturday mornings 10am-1pm. They also provide col- lection days for those who can't bring their wool in, although there is a small cost. For further information, phone 412 5811 or email Murray at firstname.lastname@example.org.
