Check out the colourful concoctions and interesting messages on the canvases at the Helensville Art Centre. The latest exhibition runs until February 27. It features artists living at Helensville’s Mt Tabor Trust, a community which caters for people with an intellectual disability. The work of deaf artist Bruce Farnhill is also on show. He is tutored by Hel- ensville identity Noeleen Healey, 81, who taught art and cookery for several years. Noeleen also chose the exhibition’s title, Energy Unleashed, which reflects the participants’ creative juices and their unrestricted ideas of how art should look. Art centre co-ordinator Pauline Mee says visitors are keen to buy the very diverse and distinctive work. ❚ The venue on Karaka St is open 10am to 2pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Landscapes go on show Picturesque: Norm Millar’s landscapes are on display. Large paintings of the New Zealand bush and its environ- ment stand proud at the Art on Track Gallery based at the Helensville Railway Station. The latest exhibition by landscape artist Norm Millar runs until February 26. Norm credits his time at Elam Art School as a young man for helping him to portray national landscapes which bring back memories to many Kiwis. The gallery is run as a non- profit operative by Annabel Brechelt, Audrey Jenkins, Lyn Chapman and Jan Scott. It is open from 10am to 3.30pm. Call (09) 420-8851 or pop in.
