Mighty main: Students become experts at preparing three-course meals including this lunch dish of poisson en papillote et gratin dauphinois -- fish with baked potatoes. ' I just love learning French and I love cooking ' Ellie Brown, 12 Escargot and mousse au chocolat are traditional favourites for mainly north-west students in a regular French cooking holiday programme. Learning to cook French delicacies is all part of the action with basic vocabulary and table etiquette. ABC Language Tuition tutor Patsy Sacx of Waimauku says students pick up the language through songs and games, along with practising the French names for ingredients, tools and utensils. Former Riverhead School student Ellie Brown is one of the grow- ing gourmets. I just love learning French and I love cook- ing,'' the 12-year-old says. My goal is to make every single recipe.'' The programme is always at Taupaki School. Patsy says food prep- aration has to be easy enough for the children to do and also to make at home. To help them, they use an exercise book with recipes, language notes and work sheets. The students from Riverhead, Waimauku, Rutherford and West- lake schools also earn certificates and gifts.
